'Scary Movie 5' Trailer: Here's Some More of That (iwatchstuff)
While Marlon Wayans has moved on to explore his own, more personal vision of
fart jokes with his horror-parody side project _A Haunted House_, the
Weinstein Company continues to play with the _Scary Movie_ name and a
replacement band for the upcoming _Scary Movie 5_. Both provide the smooth
sounds of slapstick played over _Paranormal Activity_ beats, but while
_Haunted House_ has the classic vocals of Wayans screaming, only the _Scary
Movie_ brand had the cachet to attract guest tracks featuring the shrieking of
Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan, so keep that in mind when you're deciding
where to spend your yearly horror spoof allotment. Don't worry: both involve
some testicle gags, so no matter which you pick, you've already won.
The New York City subway system is one of the oldest in the world--and at
times, it feels like it. Whereas other world cities have had, for years,
electronic signage telling you when the next train is coming, New York's
Metropolitan Transit Authority has been slow to roll this out, and only in
As a result I've become like a parody of a Native American in a bad western,
relying on the environment to tell me when the train is coming: You listen to
hear the lines in the 3rd rail tightening; or wait to feel that sudden breeze
on one side of your face that precedes the train's appearance; and more than
once I've been walking over a sidewalk grate outside the station, then
quickened my pace and barrelled down the steps after feeling that Marilyn-
Monroe gust of wind coming up through the vent.
The MTA may finally be getting with it. This morning they released MTA Subway
Time, a free app (a beta version for iDevices only, for now) that's hooked
into the subway's electronic control center. You plug in the relevant station
and it tells you how many minutes ...
SpaceX launches its Grasshopper rocket on 12-story-high hop in Texas (Cosmic Log)
SpaceX's prototype Grasshopper rocket took one giant leap last week, rising to
a 12-story height and settling back down safely on its landing legs at the
company's Texas rocket test facility. Just for fun, the engineers let a dummy
cowboy go along for the ride. The Dec. 17 test f …

Education To Employment: Why Global Employers Can't Find Skilled Workers While 75 Million Youth Remain Jobless (VIDEO WEBCAST) (Huffington post)
Around the world, governments and businesses face a conundrum: high levels of
youth unemployment and a shortage of job seekers with critical skills.
Couple that with research findings that 34 percent of young Americans don't
believe that education matters for their future, and 40 percent of those "too
cool" for school are unemployed. Another 33 percent are in "interim"
positions, according to a recent report by McKinsey, a consulting firm.
And those "cool kids," New York City's Shawn Brody told The Huffington Post
last week, are the same ones who are upset about their lack of employment
opportunities. Brody himself is a high school dropout, and now crashes with
his dad in Brooklyn and switches between construction and farm jobs, sometimes
cleaning up after animals on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
