Fuel Tank
Gas Tank Won't Fill? Let me show you how to fix it!
(Updates with details throughout)
NEW YORK, Dec 15 (Reuters) - A barge with a leaking cargo tank spilled fuel
oil into a New York City waterway on Saturday, officials said.
The barge was carrying 112,000 gallons of No. 6 fuel oil, but it was unclear
how much oil spilled into the water, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.
The spill came from a Boston Marine Transport Inc barge due to a leak from its
cargo tank, it said.
The leak occurred at Mays Ship Repair near Mariner's Harbor in the city's
Staten Island borough, the Coast Guard said. It was first reported shortly
after 11 p.m. local time (0400 GMT) on Friday, the Coast Guard said.
Boston Marine Transport said fuel was being transferred from one barge to
another when oil could be seen seeping into the water between them, the Coast
Guard said. The first barge had the leak, it said.
Boston Marine Transport workers put a containment boom around the two barges,
the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard said the fuel was leaking into Kill Van Kull, a waterway
between Staten Island and New Jersey that connects to New York Bay ...
Scale Green
Green Gold - Documentary by John D. Liu

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Wind power generated in Maine is now producing nearly
500 megawatts, enough to supply the average needs of 175,000 households.
However, it's still well short of the state's goal for wind generation by
2015.
But new projects that are in conceptual stages, under regulatory review or
approved but facing challenges could catapult the state to half of its wind-
power goal of 2,000 megawatts by 2015. The Legislature has set that goal for
installed wind power capacity, along with 3,000 megawatts by 2020.
Maine's operating wind power plants have a capacity to produce 468 megawatts
online now, according to figures from the state Department of Environmental
Protection, which regulates grid-scale projects in Maine's Unorganized
Territory.

Signal Tower
Dante's Inferno walkthrough pt20 : The tower signal commentary by the jester

The tallest structure in South Dakota almost isn’t. The 1,999-foot-high KDLT
mast is so close to the triple border with Iowa and Minnesota that it almost
seems as if South Dakota drew the line around the spire to claim something
taller than the prairie grass.
They didn’t, of course, and the height of the TV and radio transmission tower
has a practical purpose that’s more important than simply inspiring the
admiration of engineering geeks and radio nerds: the higher the mast, the
farther a signal can travel.
KDLT's mast, at 1,999-feet high, makes it one of the tallest structures not
just in South Dakota but in the world. A handful of other transmission towers
are the same height or slightly taller; the only buildings that top it are the
Burj Khalifa and the Tokyo Skytree.

#### Utah: BP Amoco double-dipped on insurance
by Judy Fahys The Salt Lake Tribune
##### Published Dec 4, 2012 11:28AM MDT
Utah is suing BP Amoco for allegedly double-dipping insurance reimbursements
tied to cleanups of leaking underground tanks. The civil suit was filed by the
Utah Attorney General’s Office in 3rd District Court on behalf of the Division
of Environmental Response and Remediation. It says the company illegally took
$1.5 million from the state’s Petroleum Storage Tank Fund, a state insurance
pool, to cover cleanup costs at BP Amoco service stations from 1995 to 2007,
even though the company already h...

Pity the overwhelmed iOS-equipped NYC straphanger. Not only are owners of
iPhones and iPads uniquely responsible for the increase in New York's property
crime count this year (as victims, not perpetrators, we hope), but even if
they can keep a grip on their much-prized tech, they have to cope with the
increased hurdles to getting accurate transit directions via iOS 6's Maps app.
It's not all darkness and grime for subway riders, however. Outgoing MTA Chief
/ mayoral candidate Joe Lhota, who led the heroic effort to bring the
subterranean system back online after Superstorm Sandy, said that today is
"the day that generations of dreamers and futurists have waited for" as he
announced MTA Subway Time, the first mobile app to deliver real-time train
arrival countdowns for subway riders. The WSJ notes that New York's initial
effort lags far behind the time-aware apps from other transit systems.
The Second Avenue Sagas subway blog has a quick take on the app, pointing out
the features and flaws of the MTA's approach. On the plus side, the app and
the companion website deliver the same data that appears on platform next-
train clocks, giving riders the ...

Negotiations to end the 82-day NHL lockout took some unexpected turns
Wednesday.
There was the podium set up for a news conference that as of early Thursday
had not happened. The podium even had its own Twitter feed. There was talk the
league for the first time since 1971 could play games on Christmas.
And there was the unexpected sight of players association senior counsel Steve
Fehr sharing pizza with reporters assembled at a New York hotel while the
league and union tried to forge a new collective bargaining agreement that
would save the threatened season.
Neither side was forthcoming as to what was discussed, though there were
sketchy media reports that a 10-year deal was being examined with an out
clause that either side could exercise after eight years.
One thing was sure: The second consecutive day of face-to-face talks between
six owners, including the Lightning's Jeff Vinik, and a group of 17 players,
down one from Tuesday's discussions but including Tampa Bay's Marty St. Louis
and B.J. Crombeen, was intense.
It included offers, counteroffers and players scurrying between rooms during
internal discussions. The NHL also held a board of governors meeting.

What's that old saying, "the grass is always greener" is it? That notion rings
especially true for enthusiasts of foreign sports cars, where great efforts
are often taken to import these supremely rare performance machines. Some of
the more difficult cars to import are the right-hand-drive JDM sportscars like
the Mazda RX-7 and Acura NSX. Of this assortment of 90's sports car
awesomeness, perhaps the most lauded and difficult to import is the RHD Nissan
Skyline GT-R, but someone just figured out how.
Our friends up North at _Autoblog Canada_ recently chronicled the adventures
of Sean Morris in attempting to import not one, but two R32 Nismo GT-Rs.
Morris owns _www.showordisplay.com_, which brings to light a loophole for
vehicles older than 21 years and of "historical or technological
significance." We would argue that a Nismo GT-R has both.
According to Morris's site, the Environmental Protection Agency has emissions
exemptions for vehicles that are 21 years or older, while the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration exemptions extend to vehicles older than 25
years. He continually followed up with the Department of Transportation,
eventually giving up, but in September of this year ...
